Calculating Asset Status

inSITE Facilities allows you to quickly calculate interactive reports on current inspection and maintenance status in your system. inSITE’s current release targets electric utility structures, including towers and wood, concrete, and steel poles.

 

Creating or Selecting an Ambit

inSITE calculates asset status within the boundaries of an ambit. If you’re not familiar with ambits in inSITE, see What is an Ambit? for more information.

  • Open the Facility Inspection widget and click the Structures tab.
  • Create or select an ambit using one of the following methods:

  • Click the From Library button to select an existing predefined or user-created ambit from your library.
    • Click on an ambit to preview it in the map.
    • Click Confirm to select the ambit.
    • To add a new ambit to the library, open the Ambit widget 
  • Click the Create Ambit from Circuit button to create a new ambit by specifying a circuit and creating a user-defined buffer around the circuit centerline.
    • Start typing the name of a circuit in the Select Circuit drop-down menu
    • Click on the desired result to select it.
    • Enter a value in the Corridor Width Buffer box
    • Select width units using the drop-down menu to adjust the width of the ambit generated around the selected circuit
    • Click Preview to see the resulting ambit boundaries in the map window.
    • Enter a name in the Ambit Name box and a description of your ambit in the Comment box.
    • Click Save to Ambit Library to save your ambit and select it in the Structures widget.

  • Click Create Ambit from Inspect Rotation to select an ambit from your planned asset inspection schedule.
    • Select a Program from the Select Inspection Program Drop down
    • Click on a circuit in the Inspection Rotation Cycle Plan table to highlight it.
    • Click Select and Save as Ambit to select it in the Structure widget.

Selecting Structure Parameters

  • Select an option from the Structure Parameters drop-down menu to determine which criteria to use to calculate current asset status. Your inSITE Facilities account includes at least one set of structure parameters configured by your organization’s inSITE administrator.
  • To view details for a set of structure parameters, select it from the Structure Parameters drop-down menu then click the edit menu and choose Edit.

  • inSITE Facilities allows users to create custom structure parameters to meet specific project or regional needs. For more information about custom structure parameters, see Defining Structure Parameters.

 

Viewing Structures

  • After you’ve selected an ambit and structure parameters, click the Calculate Ambit button. inSITE will calculate a count of all structures in the selected ambit for your selected parameters. 
  • inSITE returns a table of structure categories prioritized according to the selected structure parameters.
  • Click the count button for any structure category with one or more results to open a table listing details for each structure result in the category.

    • Click any column header to sort the table.
    • Click any row in the table to highlight the corresponding structure in the map and pan the map to the structure’s location.
    • Click the Back button to return to the overall results.
  • Click the info button for any structure category to view the parameters used to calculate results.
    • Structure parameters are displayed as SQL statements. For more information about structure parameters, see Defining Structure Parameters.
    • Click OK to close the SQL Statement window and return to the overall results.
  • To recalculate structure results, select or create a different ambit or select a different set of structure parameters then click the Calculate Ambit button.
