Defining Structure Parameters

inSITE Facilities allows users to create custom structure parameters to meet specific project or regional needs. Depending on your inSITE administrator’s settings, your personal inSITE account may or may not include access to inSITE Facilities’s custom structure parameter tools. If you need access to custom structure parameters tools, contact your organization’s inSITE adminstrator.

Creating New Structure Parameters

  • To create a custom set of structure parameters:
    • Open the Structures widget

    • Click the edit menu under Structure Parameters, and choose New

    • Enter a name and description for your custom parameters.
    • Check the Make Default box if you would like to make this set of parameters the default option in the Structure Parameters menu each time you log in.
    • Click Save then click OK in the Warning window to add your new set of parameters to the Structure Parameters menu.

Adding Structure Categories

  • Click the Add New Category button.
  • Enter a category name
  • Select a priority level for the new category
    • 1 represents the highest priority structure category.
      • If desired, enter an acronym for the category (e.g., “SPC1” for a priority 1 steel pole in critical condition).
      • If desired, enter a description of the structure category.
    • Click Save then click OK in the Warning window to add the new category to your structure parameters

Defining Structure Criteria with Sub Statements

To determine which structures will return calculation results in your custom parameters, you will use one or more sub statements. Sub statements are simple structured query language (SQL) expressions that use one or more data attributes from the structures in your inSITE database. The SQL expressions consist of a data attribute, or field, a value that sets the threshold for a structure for the selected data attribute, and an operator that determines whether the threshold is set at greater than, less than, equal to, or not equal to the selected value.

In the Category Setting window, Click the Add New Sub Statement button. A new line will appear in the sub statement table. Click the add button to add a sub statement.

In the Add New Parameter window, select one of the following data attributes from the Field drop-down menu.

   Electric Transmission Structure Data Attributes

  • Status: The current inspection status of the structure based on historical records or the most recent structure inspection.
  • Maintenance: The current maintenance status of the structure based on historical records, the most recent structure inspection, or the most recent structure maintenance update.
  • Material: The structure’s primary construction material.
  • Height: The height of the highest point on the structure in feet.

Select one of the following operators from the Operator drop-down menu.

  • > (Less than)
  • <= (Less than or equal to)
  • = (Equal to)
  • >= (Greater than or equal to)
  • > (Greater than)
  • != (Not equal to)

Enter a value in the Value box. If a data attribute that uses non-numerical values (such as Maintenance) is selected, select a value from the Value drop-down menu. Click Add to add the sub statement to the current structure category.

Your completed sub statement will provide a complete description of one criterion for identifying a structure in the current structure category. For example, Maintenance = CRITICAL means only trees with Maintenance values equal to CRITICAL will be counted as structures in the current structure category. Height <= 35 means only structures with height values less than or equal to 35 feet will be counted as structures in the current structure category.

You may add one more than one calculation to a sub statement if you want inSITE to test multiple data attributes before returning structure results. In the Sub Statement list in the Category Setting window, click the Add button on a line with an existing sub statement. Select a field and operator and enter a value then click Add. The new calculation will appear in the same line as the existing calculation, separated by AND. Sub statements with calculations separated by AND require a structure to return positive results for all calculations in the sub statement before the tree is counted as a structure. For example, Height > 60 AND Status = Good will count structures that are taller than 60 feet and have a good inspection status.

Click Add New Sub Statement again to add additional sub statements to the current structure category. Multiple sub statements within a structure category are separated by OR. inSITE will count structures that meet the criteria for any substatement - a structure does not have to meet all criteria for all sub statements separated by OR to be counted. For example, Status = REJECT OR Maintenance = REPAIR will count all structures with a reject inspection status or a repair maintenance status.
