Creating and Editing Features

inSITE's layer editing functions allow you to create or delete features in an existing data layer or edit stored information for existing features. A future version of inSITE will allow user creation of new data layers and data types.

Creating Features

Click the Other Panels button then click Edit to open the Edit panel. The Edit panel displays icons for all available editable layers.

Click the icon for the type of feature you want to add. Click in the map to add a new feature of that type. The attributes dialog for the new feature will appear. Enter data in any relevant fields then click close to exit the attributes dialog and save your changes.

Editing Features

In the Edit panel, click the icon for the type of feature you want to edit. Click the new selection tool then click-and-drag in the map to draw a box around the feature you want to edit.

Once the feature is selected, click on the feature in the map to display the attributes for the feature. Edit data in any relevant fields then click close to exit the attributes dialog and save your changes.

Deleting Features

In the Edit panel, click the icon for the type of features you want to delete. Click the new selection tool then click-and-drag in the map to draw a box around the features you want to delete.

Once the features are selected, click the Delete button in the edit panel to delete the features from their data layer.

Undoing or Redoing Edits

Click the Undo button to undo your last edit. Click Undo again to undo previous edits.

Click the Redo button to redo your last undo action. Click Redo again to redo additional undo actions.

Modifying a Selection

To modify a selection you made from the edit window, click the menu triangle next to the New Selection button and choose Add to selection or Subtract from selection. Click-and-drag in the map to add or subtract an area from your current selection.
