Compatible Data
You can add data from the web to inSITE with the User Layer feature. Any data you want to add must be available through an ESRI web service. Hundreds of data layers are available through ESRI, and many governments and private entities also provide data layers through web services. For example, the United States Geological Survey and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources provide public web services for their data.
Permanently Adding Data
Permanent addition of data layers to inSITE is currently performed by the Quantum Spatial software team. A future release of inSITE will allow direct user upload of data.
Adding a User Layer
Click the Layers button then click the User Layer tab. Enter the web address for the layer you want to add in the Layer URL box. Enter a name for the layer. Click Validate to determine whether the layer is a web service compatible with inSITE. If your URL is not valid, check the URL and try again.
Once your layer is validated, check the Collapsed box if you want individual layers and subgroups to be collapsed by default. Check the Visible box if you want the layer to be visible in the map by default. Enter a value between 0.0 and 1.0 in the opacity box to determine how opaque the layer will appear by default - 0.0 is fully transparent and 1.0 is fully opaque.
Click Add to add the layer to your map. The map window will automatically zoom to the extent of the data layer you added. Controls for the added layer will appear in the User Layer panel, and symbols for the added layer will automatically appear in the Legend panel when those symbols are visible in the map.
