Layers
Individual datasets in inSITE are called layers. A layer can contain any type of data or analytics that inSITE can visualize in the map.
Related layers are stored in layer groups. For example, a gas pipeline layer group might contain a layer for the pipeline route, a layer for pipeline junctions, and a layer for potential geohazard analytics.
Selecting Layers
Click the Layers button then click the Operational Layer tab to see your available layers.
Click the check boxes in the Operational Layer window to show or hide layers or layer groups. Click the +/ - buttons to show or hide individual layers within a layer group.
Click the Select All button for a layer group to show all layers in the group. Click the Deselect All button to hide all layers in the group.
Layer Visibility
Many layers contain features that are too small or crowded to display when you're viewing a large area in the map. inSITE automatically makes layers visible or invisible depending on your zoom level. Layers for large-scale features like electrical transmission lines or major highways are visible at all zoom levels. Smaller features like trees, utility towers, or switches become visible as you zoom in to smaller areas.
Invisible layers are automatically grayed out in the Operational Layer tab. Invisible layers become visible as you zoom in.
Zoom to a Layer
Click the Zoom To button for any layer group to zoom the map to the extent of all the layers in the group.
Transparency
Use the transparency slider for any layer group to make the group more transparent or opaque in the map.
Layer Symbols in the Legend
The Legend window automatically updates to display symbology for visible layers. As you show or hide layers or zoom in and out, the legend will display only symbols that are currently visible in the map.
